NOTE: EASHL Forum membership required to use Goalie Creator.

So by popular demand, I decided to expand the NHL 10 Player Creator and make the NHL 10 Goalie Creator. The page works essentially the same as the player creator. Simply apply XP to the attributes by using the + and - buttons. Use the sections at the bottom at apply boosts.

Many, many thanks to Jason Rupert from EA for providing the XP costs for the goalies. He saved me a ton of work.

I don't have any plans on updating any of the pages unless there are bugs. I don't intend on making any enhancements to either of the pages.

Please leave comments, suggestions and bugs below. Thanks again.

So, you boosted your way to a legend card last year or never got one and now want one. You want to feel like you have achieved something in the EASHL and feel like a top player. Well in this article, we will be discussing the Legend Card.

Before Continuing:

It is much easier to get the legend card as a defenseman, especially if you have a good group of guys to play with. You pretty much get an A+ position score every game, team play hope to get nothing worse then B (don't hold onto the puck too long, make smart decisions, avoid turnovers at all costs), and Stats, if you're playing with skilled players, very easy to get an assist somewhere which will get you an A+ as well.

The Basics:

There are 6 different cards: Amateur (default), Rookie , Pro, Veteran, Superstar and finally, the Legend Card.

The legend card is unlocked after 150 Games played in the EASHL and at least an A- Skater Rating. No, you cannot play 150 games as a skater and then 1 game as a goalie with an A- and unlock it. You must maintain your grade after the 150 game mark. Your skater rating is rated on 3 specific categories: Position, Team Play and Stats.

Position:

Positives:

-Take your defensive zone, cut it into 4 quarters. Wingers, if the puck is on your side, you should be somewhere between the half boards and the opposing defenseman so you can be an outlet. If the puck is on the other side, you should drop to the high slot but still be within range of their dman. Centers, support the puck. This does not mean chase it everywhere, it means angle the puck to the boards and board play the guy. Always stay between the man with the puck and the net and do not chase to the point, the winger is there for a reason. Instead, help clear the front of the net. Dmen, if the puck is on your side play your man aggressive and if it is on the other side, stay in front of your net and clear anyone that comes near you.

-Protect the posts dmen

-Set-up a wall on the blue line (only with good 2-way forwards), only make checks if you're sure your hit will knock the skater off the puck.

-Keep pucks in the offensive zone, cover your side boards

-In most cases dmen, you want to be the last man out of your D zone, while getting to the offensive blue line as fast as possible to provide support for your forwards (along with your D partner).

Negatives:

-Self explanatory...almost never be the first person out of your def zone and/or the last person out of your offensive zone

Team Play

Positives:

- Make smart passes. This means you do not pass to someone when there's 2 people between you. Instead, cross center and dump the puck in

-Shoot. DO NOT Shoot from everywhere EVERY TIME. If you are set up in their zone and are passing around, shoot from the point a lot, but as a defenseman you don't want to out-shoot your forwards. Forwards, if you cannot make a pass to the slot shoot low at the goalies pads.

-Turnovers:Takeaway Ratio. The more you cause pass interceptions and turnovers against them with you taking possession of the puck the better. It is speculated that getting loose pucks will help too, but I'm not so sure about that

- Successful poke-checks. DO NOT be a poke check *****, meaning all you do is poke check. Use it if he is coming towards you or from the side. NEVER POKE CHECK FROM BEHIND and use the 3 rule limit. If you have poke checked 3 times and nothing, use a different button before poking more.

-Blocked shots [only counts as a blocked shot if you are lying down to block (LB+RB on 360 or LB block. I believe that works because thats how I block all my shots.)

-Reduce attempted body-checks. I have 49 hits in 180 games, nuff said here.

-Successful clears during PK. For gods sake, do not try to score on a PK unless its a clear odd man rush. GET IT OUT

Negatives

- Turnovers. Errant passes, bad shots which miss the net an give them possession, not dumping the puck in and trying to dangle.

-Penalties. (3 time rules remember. It applies to stick lift and poke check.)

-Number of icing calls on you. IF you are being pressured heavily, its fine to ice it but do not ice it for no reason.

-Off-sides if you were involved in the play

Stats:

Positives:

-All you need for an A/A+ in stats is a +/- of at least +1 and a point for the game.

-Dmen all you need for an A/A+ in stats is a +2 for the game, but obviously getting goals and assists will help

Negatives:

-Anything under +2 will gradually take your stats rating down for both Forwards and Dmen.

How to Unlock your Legend Card:

You have to get your overall ratings to A- for several games (after maintaining a B+) to get your legend card. It is important to know you can't have a really bad game during that streak, cause it will botch your Legend Card attempt since the game calculates your overall rating with only the last few (10-20) played games, acting like a buffer.

http://www.operationsports.com/eashl...0playercreator

NOTE: EASHL Forum membership required to use Player Creator.

So after mikeymac71 was generous enough to compile all of the costs per attribute point (see the below article), I decided that going into the hockey shop to build a guy took way too long and that a faster solution was needed. I decided to take a few minutes of my time and hack together a quick webpage that allows you to create a character.

Simply choose your player build and your desired card (legend, superstar, etc.) Then, use the + and - buttons to apply attributes. The Reset All button resets all the attributes to the default state (so you don't have to change your build to something stupid and then change it back). The individual reset buttons rest only that category (offense, defense, athletic).

I don't know how EA does it's overall ratings. I initially made the Overall rating at the top of the screen just be an average of all the totals. However, this didn't quite coincide with my guy. Instead, I calculate the average rating for each main category (offensive, defensive and athletic) and average the three together. If someone has any more info or insight in this issue, I'll be happy to update the page.

Apply boosts by first selecting an attribute from the drop down menus at the bottom. Then, click either the +1, +3 or +5 radio button to apply the boost. Note that you can only apply a particular boost once (example, +5 speed). Some of the radio buttons may be disabled to reflect this constraint. You can remove a boost by selecting the top (blank) element in the drop down menu.

I tested it fairly well (you can't put a stat above 99 or below the initial value). I also think I typed all of the initial attributes and the XP costs correctly, but I probably have a typo here and there. If you spot one, please let me know.

Please feel free to leave comments, suggestions and bugs. Thanks.

Thank you to MikeONe5 for this information, which I feel is important enough to highlight for everyone to read since there have been some questions and conflicting reports:

You're options for adding points are the following:

1. You can earn your card just like 09

2. Position specific boost packs

3. Individual pieces of gear with boost slots

Now here's where it gets tricky, so concentrate.

Using boost slotted equipment (3) adds attributes to your current build. Which means it adds onto your card points. There are 4 pieces of equipment capable of holding up to 3 boost slots each (Helmet, Skates, Gloves, Stick) and 3 Boost Slot Fillers (+1, +3, +5) for each attribute. You can only use each slot filler once (example. Adding +5 speed filler to a skate slot, you can't use that same +5 filler again, but you can use the +3 and +1 in another slot.)

Using position specific boost packs replaces your card, and it's a package of gear - stick, gloves, and skates. So you can't use custom boost slotted gear on top of the position specific boost pack. But you can still use a helmet with boost slots, as the position boost packs don't come with helmets. Each boost pack (distinguished by player type) adds a different preset amount of attributes to your BAP player.

Simply:

card + boost slots = Yes

card + boost pack = No

boost pack + boost slots = No, aside from helmet

So, for max attributes, you will have to wear non-authentic equipment. Though the Kane equipment has boost slots, I hope there's more than a single option of authentic gear with boost slots, or about 70% of EASHL players will be wearing the exact same gear once the novelty of childish pretend gear wears off.
